Use a floating reamer holder when:
- The drilled hole may not be perfectly aligned.
- Tight hole tolerances are required (such as H7).
- You want to improve tool life.
- You are using carbide reamers, which are less tolerant of side loads.
- You need high-quality surface finish and roundness.
For rough drilling or operations where hole precision isn't critical, a standard ER collet holder is usually sufficient.
